Although D. Gukesh missed the opportunity to become the youngest Grandmaster (GM) in the history of the world in December 2-18, 2018, he did become the World's Youngest Living Grandmaster in January 2019!
He earned final GM norm at the Delhi Grandmaster Open 2019, and became the Youngest Living Grandmaster in the World and the 2nd Youngest Grandmaster in the World ever at the age of 12 years 7 months and 17 days!

12-year-old D. Gukesh is from Tamil Nadu, India. This is also the home of his role model and inspiration, India's former World Chess Champion (2000-2002 and 2007-2013), Vishy Anand.
D. Gukesh, who was born on May 29th, 2006, had until December 29th, 2018 to break Sergey Karjakin's record of 12 years, 7 months, 0 days old to become the World's Youngest Grandmaster in history. He missed the record by 17 days!
Nevertheless, he is now the World's 2nd Youngest Grandmaster ever at the age of 12 years, 7 months, and 17 days!
